Goosefeather Restaurant Wedding - Hudson Valley, NY - Eliot & Nick

When a couple elopes with just the closest of family (SEE IT HERE), there can often be a powerful itch to celebrate afterwards in a bigger, more playful fashion! A romantic restaurant wedding with cherished chosen family eagerly toasting the newlyweds can be incredibly meaningful. That was the premise of Eliot & Nick’s elegant post-nuptial dinner party at the charming and eclectic GOOSEFEATHER RESTAURANT at Tarrytown House Estate. This venue, while both intimate and comfortable for table conversation, also offers an enticing destination as an untraditional wedding venue with unique dining options.

Rockefeller State Park Elopement - Hudson, Valley - Eliot & Nick

If a dream-like spring escape in nature is your idea of the perfect wedding, prepare to be inspired by the upstate elopement of Eliot and Nick. When they first reached out to me about their shared vision of an outdoor wedding ceremony in an vast open field, I immediately thought it was suited for the iconic ROCKELFELLER STATE PARK PRESERVE, a location I’ve been lucky to photograph couples in love several times over the years. Just under an hour from New York City, in the eastern foothills of the Hudson River in Westchester County, this sprawling state park offers expansive wooded hiking trails, beautiful beaches and scenic picnic areas. After scouting the location together, the couple found their favorite spot for their intimate ceremony under a giant mother tree. There they could finally picture their future wedding together and begin to plan what I consider to be one of the most meaningful and intentional occasions I have ever photographed.

MyMoon Wedding - Brooklyn, NY - Alex & Maddy

Alex & Maddy wed at MyMoon, a converted boiler room from Williamsburg’s industrial heyday turned chic Spanish style tapas bistro. Their guests convened on the restaurant’s spacious patio, amid urban, rugged decor paired with lush greenery and flower-filled bud vases. After the couple exchanged vows, they were joyfully showered in a flurry of bubbles.

Tuffet Wedding - Brooklyn, NY - Rachel & Katy

Rachel and Katy celebrated their love with a restaurant wedding at the chic wine and cheese bar and event space, Tuffet, in Williamsburg. In an unexpected moment of kismet, the wall across from the restaurant sported a mural commemorating Stonewall- a beautiful nod to the couples meeting place, which neither knew existed until their wedding day. In a small courtyard in the back of the restaurant, the pair exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony. In lieu of a traditional ring bearer, their audience of family and friends each held the box of wedding rings as it was passed around during the ceremony- allowing everyone to personally bless this symbol of their union before the official “I do’s.”

Rule of Thirds Wedding - Brooklyn, NY - Parker & Jeff

Parker and Jeff, after meeting 10 years earlier on OK Cupid, decided to make it official at Rule of Thirds in Williamsburg in Brooklyn for their modern Jewish wedding. The couple decided to have the wedding in Brooklyn to show off the borough they love to friends and family, many of who traveled from out of town and were in NYC for the first time!

The heat was brutal that day, but the couple were cool as cucumbers as they got ready at William Vale with a stunning city sky line view. The two then explored Brooklyn and the surrounding neighborhood, heading to the waterfront and Marsha P. Johnson State Park (had to pay tribute to one of the most prominent figures of the gay rights movement!) They also wanted to show off street art and wheat-pasted walls while they walked to the venue- little details that are quintessentially Brooklyn.

The two emphasized they wanted a silly and romantic vibe for their wedding day, something that Rule of Thirds, one of their favorite restaurants, was the perfect venue to accommodate. The space was full of natural light pouring in from the floor-to-ceiling windows. A curtain separated the ceremony space from the reception area. The concrete walls, natural wood details, lush tropical plants and large skylight helped in building a natural and warm feeling to the multicultural wedding.

Jersey City Elopement - Jersey City Hall - Danny & Rob

Danny & Rob originally had their wedding planned for October 2020, and ended up postponing due to COVID. So when I got an email from them in September telling me they were planning on eloping at city hall in just a couple weeks, and was I available, I responded with a resounding YES, LET'S DO THIS! Danny & Rob live together in Downtown Jersey City. They’re both creatives- Danny’s a vocalist, and Rob loves architecture/design. I teased Danny saying he should try to sing at the ceremony- but he didn’t want to steal the show :P
