The wedding vendor search can be overwhelming. There’s so much talent out there to compare, and you’re trusting them with one of the most joyous and delicate days of your life.

Where do you even begin?

Having been in the wedding industry for 10 years now, I’ve met and collaborated with countless wedding vendors in the 100’s of events I’ve documented. In an effort to make your vendor search easier, and in order to lift up other small businesses I love, I’ve collected my favorite wedding vendors (aka “friendors”) in this exhaustive list.

Here you’ll find professional, experienced vendors vetted and curated by me, with an emphasis on those who are not normally centered in the wedding industry, including queer & BIPOC-owned businesses, and those who are values-driven and prioritize eco-friendly practices in their businesses.

Note: I have no business agreement with these folks, just support and love. 💛

Happy Booking!

BLB Events

I’ve worked in events for over a decade—and hands down, weddings are my favorite. Because what’s better than celebrating someone’s relationship surrounded by so much love? As the owner and founder of BLB Events, I’m here to bring your celebration to life as seamlessly as possible, so you can celebrate and feel all the feels with your nearest and dearest.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with logistics; I love watching a well-executed event go off without a hitch. But the most important part of my job is building a close and trusting relationship with every couple I work with. There’s no better feeling than watching them enjoy the day we planned together—especially that moment when the couple comes back down the aisle post-ceremony with that “just-married” look on their faces. That’s what the whole day is about.

Amsale

For designer Amsale (Ahm-sah’-leh) Aberra, it all started with a single wedding dress: her own. Seeking a more modern silhouette for her 1985 nuptials, Ethiopian native Amsale found her options limited. She eschewed the overly ornate—on-trend in that era—and crafted her own pared-down design, elegant in its simplicity and quiet in its impact, featuring a distinct style that was modern and personal at once. Three decades later, her refined and modern aesthetic endures in a variety of collections - and Amsale herself is widely credited as the inventor of the modern wedding dress.

Little Black Tux

“We’re a twin sister duo and family owned business creating a a new way for women to enjoy the classic tuxedo. Combining our fathers deep experience in the formal wear industry and a passion for accessible and inclusive fashion, we offer the tuxedo to all.

Our story begins with our fathers extensive experience in crafting traditional formalwear for men.  With his twin daughters they're now focusing to serve the growing market of women and non-binary customers looking for high-quality tuxedos. Too often, we heard customers only had the option to shop at men’s retailers and found themselves stuck with boxy, masculine styles that were not specifically designed for a women's body and shape.

Keeping all female body shapes and sizes in mind we decided to start our family journey together. We named the company Little Black Tux in homage to both the classic “little black dress” and the LGBT community whose needs, styles, and bodies deserve to be recognized and most especially designed in the formal wear industry. Using our fathers expertise, we were able to source fabrics and create designs that were built for women and gender fluid shoppers.”

We hope you find a new favorite, something you would steal out of your sisters closet.”

Specializing in detailed wax carving and etching, the collection features rings, necklaces, and earrings that incorporate themes from the natural world, such as twigs, leaves, and water. These organic textures and shapes, inspired by her childhood growing up in Osaka, Japan, where she often played in the forest near her home. “That experience as a little girl still inspires me.” She named her jewelry line Yayoi Forest, after these precious memories.

A lot of families come into Yayoi’s storefront for gifts for special occasions, custom orders and even repairs on older jewelry that belonged to grandparents.

Yayoi enjoys interacting with customers and being a part of the Atlantic Avenue community. “Mostly the neighbors in this area, it’s really nice, it’s like being a part of the customers’ life. They come with their boyfriend, and then they get engaged and then have kids, and they purchase another ring for the memory of the baby, and sometimes they break up and then they come back to resize the wedding band to wear it on their pinkie or as a pendant. I really appreciate people coming back.” Many Atlantic Avenue merchants visit Written by Forest, “It’s nice to have people around here, especially other female owners.”
